Statue of the half human and half horse
STATUE OF THE HALF HUMAN AND HALF HORSE CENTAUR FOUND AT THE ANCIENT CITY OF PARION NEAR TO CANAKKALE
The centaur was unearthed during the excavations by the roman theatre led by Professor Cevat Başaran from the Department of Archaeology at Erzurum Atatürk University.
Basaran said that initial examinations revealed that the statue dated back to 200 AD and added that the "part of the statue which has reached the present day shows the naked upper part of a strong male body. The lower part of the statue covered with a two-fold cloth hanging down the lower part and some other details show that the statue belongs to a centaur. Given the height of the statute, which is nearly 3 meters and made of multiple parts of white marble, it is still contemplated which part of the theater the figure must have stood. The hollow eyes of the figure give the impression that precious stones were ed in these parts and the hair of the head reveals details of the high-quality workmanship. The statue, the rest of which is expected to be found, is scheduled to be exhibited at the Museum of Canakkale after its restoration."
